Eradicating Food Insecurities

Helping students to thrive academically, professionally and holistically

According to a report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO), an estimated 23% of undergraduate students (about 3.8 million) experienced food insecurity in 2020

Many students experience food insecurity when meal plans, groceries, or benefits don’t last the whole month. No student should have to choose between working to survive, going to school to better themselves, and simply eating.

In 2018 Harvesting Scholars launched the Harvest Cares program serving students from different demographics on local college campuses and throughout the community in effort to fight food insecurity among college students. What began with donated pastries from Panera Bread’s Doughnation Program and Red Lobster’s Food to Donate, grew over the years into a mission of compassion and care.

Today, as many traditional college students face financial challenges amid governmental policy changes, the Harvest Cares program continues to serve local communities helping students ages 18–25 to not only be prepared academically, but also holistically by supporting students’ basic needs while they pursue their degrees.

Whether its sending care packages or gift cards during exam week, Harvesting Scholars Cares!

We are offering grocery gift cards to students who have been personally impacted by the government shutdown. A little can go a long way!
